Come celebrate Local Foods Week in Columbus, Ohio! Columbus, known for its eclectic mix of food, cultures, and venues, has set aside this week to honor food produced locally and seasonally in Columbus, Ohio. Initiated by Local Matters and celebrated every year for the past 5 years, Local Foods Week is a week long festivity devoted to the sustainability of Columbus’ land and community. This week’s events include a variety of fun and food. On the evening of Monday, August 12, Columbus residents can participate in the Local Love Tour & Tasting at Whole Foods Market in Upper Arlington from 6-7 PM. They can then head over to The Crest’s “We Love Ohio” Beer Night running from 8:30 till Midnight to experience the richness of Columbus’ locally crafted beers. On Tuesday at 6:00 PM, and continuing for the following 2 evenings, Columbus dwellers are able to partake in Columbus Food Adventures – an Annual Local Foods Week Tour which showcases restaurants and food businesses that focus on local and seasonal sourcing, including: Skillet, The Coop, The Hills Market, Brothers Drake Meadery, and Knead. Also on Tuesday, Columbus Bike lovers can bring their helmet to The Crest and get 10% off food all day and night. Wednesday’s events include: a special produce drop for MidOhio Foodbank’s Share Your Harvest Donation, local food tastings at Fountain side: Celebrating the Harvest, an in-season cooking lesson for Savor the Season: Local Produce, with free samples at Whole Foods, with a Tour and Tasting following, and a Franklinton Gardens Farm Stand & Garden Tour.
The rest of the week includes more tours, tastings, and events centered around the locally produced foods of Columbus, Ohio. This fun-filled week wraps up with the Columbus Food Truck Festival, featuring the Farm to Food Truck Challenge, and presenting the best food trucks in all of Ohio! This event lasts from Noon to 10:00 PM both Friday and Saturday (August 16th-17th) and includes over 40 Food Trucks, entertainment, arts & crafts, and fun for the whole family!
